Not commonly known, Witsand has the largest concentration of Southern Right Whales during the calving season between the months of June and end November every year, increasing annually at the rate of 7%.

But our little village does not only boast magnificent whale watching, it also has a rich and fascinating history that dates back as far as 1488 when Vasco Da Gama recognized the Breede River Mouth as being the finest natural anchorage on the entire southern seaboard in Africa. The town was officially established in 1908.

The dates for 2011 is the 7th and 8th of October and we will be hosting the event on the Breƫ River Angling Club grounds in Witsand.

The festival will serve as a fundraiser for the promotion of tourism in the Witsand area.
