Kadie’s River House is a self catering unit for 6 people (4 single beds and 1 double bed) next to the spectacular Breede River.  The cottage is located approximately 50m from the riverbank and 20km from Witsand on our farm, Kadie.

This is a haven in particular for those who want to get away from the rushed life in the city and nature lovers.  The cottage has NO electricity but gas is provided for warm water, a gas stove and fridge is available with freezing facilities.  All candles, gas lamps and oil lamps are provided at no extra cost.  During wintertime a gas heater is provided.  We are accredited by Cape Town Routes Unlimited.

The cottage is fully equipped with bedding and towels, kitchen utensils, crockery etc.  The farm and Malgas/Witsand area offers some wonderful scenic drives, hiking and if you’re interested in bird watching and wild life, this is the place to be.  Guests are welcome to bring their bicycles and cycle on the farm.  Angling can also be enjoyed along the riverbank or from boat.  Canoe’s can also be hired at R150.00 per unit per day.  Guests must bring their own life jackets

Costs

R700.00 per night, an additional R250.00 breakage fee must be paid, with 50% deposit at reservation.  If you would like some of our farm products (fresh jersey milk, ostrich eggs, free range chicken eggs, home made jam, bread and rusks), that amount must also be paid with reservation.  If the house is left in a satisfactory state and nothing was broken, the breakage fee will be paid back the day after your departure.  Sorry, we do not have credit card facilities.

Directions

From Cape Town, take the N2 highway out of Cape Town and head east.  Once you get to a town called Buffeljags (just after Swellendam), turn right at the Malagas/Port Beaufort sign (R324).  This is a gravel road.  Continue straight for 31km and turn right at the Kadie sign.  Continue straight for 7 km to the Kadie’s homestead where we will greet you.

From Mossel Bay, take the N2 highway out of Mossel Bay and head west.   Once you passed a town called Heidelberg, turn left at the Malagas/Port Beaufort sign (R322).  Continue straight into Witsand.  At the 4 way stop, turn right onto the R324 gravel road.  Continue for 14km and turn left at the Kadie sign.  Continue for 7km until you reach the Kadie homestead where we will greet you.

Please note, NO pets are allowed.  You will be using the river at OWN RISK.  Please DO NOT use the coal stove.  You will be travelling on a gravel road when you leave the N2 and down a hill to the cottage, so we always advise visitors to please arrive in a bakkie or a 4 wheel driven vehicle.
